Our founder, Regina Jimison, started writing letters at the age of 12; when her aunt went into the military. Writing was a way to stay connected to her. Additionally, to let her know she was not alone, and someone was thinking of her. For Regina, writing became much; it was a way to share her heart.
This led her to place her name & contact information in the “Pen Pal” section of a popular magazine. After receiving over 20 responses within the first week and responding to each letter, she found her calling. She believed that "Everyone needs a friend and needs to know someone cares."
Over time, Regina received letters not only from individuals within the US but individuals from all over the world. She had a ” Global presence.” The types of individuals varied from peers to Veterans and the Incarcerated.
Writing letters became her passion. This was a way for her to make a difference and inspire people. Although she lost touch with her “Pen Pals,” Regina continues to send letters with the same heart and belief.
Her writing has transitioned from handwritten letters to cards.
She always desired to help the elderly. After reading an article on ‘CDC.org,”1/3 of adults aged 45+ feel lonely, and nearly 1/4 of adults aged 65+ are considered to be socially isolated,”
she felt led to take action to fight elderly loneliness.
One way was to send cards, which led to the creation of Hopecare Cards. Hopecare Cards will allow her to expand her reach by distributing them to senior care organizations. In addition to sending cards, she actively volunteers with Gwinnett volunteer.
